  2. Why are we taking that 'y' is the maximum elongation of the block ? What I mean is that the force needed to break the lower block from the ground can be achieved before the spring reaches it's maximum elongation , right ?

  4. Not getting why it will bounce off (x y) I mean initial compression was x and final was y. Now as it bounce off x but some energy is consumed for compression of spring (y) so net bouncing off distance should be (x-y) not (x y)??
