you can see it like this... we know W=F x S .. so for a point particle such as a charge F=qE and let S be the length of the conductor with one side connected to higher potential V and the other side at a lower potential 0... we know that for a cell to move an electron through a potential difference V, V=ES where S is the length of the conductor so substituting the values IN W=F x S we can write W=qES and ES=V so W=qV Btw: E is the electric field generated from V to 0 potential hope this helps :-)
