current always flows from lower potential to higher potential
e.g. suppose two points on conductive wire A and B which have voltage 3v and 5v respectively then current flows through A to B due to potential difference

Current flow is taken in the direction of flow of positive charges as convention... to consider what ayush has written...

According to convention positive charges do not flow because they are embedded in the nucleus but negative charges are free to move i.e. ELECTRONS. so when a potential difference is generated electrons start moving from higher potential to the lower potential. this generates electric current in opposite direction ( opposite to the direction of flow of electrons)
