    hello rahul.we have learnt in 11th std that the resultant of two vectors a & b is given by r= root over a^2+b^2+2abcos theeta.if a=b then r comes out to be 2acos theeta/2.

    he has simply taken the component of F which is Fcos theeta due to one and due to both the cos theta component will be added up and so is the restoring force is 2Fcostheeta ..
